Potpourri

Randomness from the past 2 weeks.

JL has mastered climbing onto the sofa.

See JT's legs protecting JL from falling off? After about half an hour, he kindly asked me
to come get her because his legs were getting tired. :)

We began our mealworm project last week. So far, the kids are really enjoying it. This was the 1st day.

Cuteness!

JMC needed LOTS of help. :)

JT, doing math, on the floor, while entertaining a cute toddler. :)

JA's free choice reading - How Nature Works

Papi sat down with a container of grapes and was immediately surrounded by all 4 children!
It was quicker than when he snacks on candy! :)

JL kept climbing in and out of this tiny suitcase.

JL has a ponytail now! She doesn't like ANYTHING in her hair, though we are making some progress.

Pinata making. This project was beyond JMC, and he quickly gave up. We'll try again in a few years when he's older.

Someone loves to remove the posters from the walls.

When she can steal it away from JMC, JL really enjoys playing on this rocking horse that doesn't rock, but has wheels.

Walking to School

The kids heard about some other homeschool families in which the children walk to school. They thought this sounded like fun. So, one morning, I had them pack up their bags, and walk around the cul-de-sac. Guess what? The bags were heavy! ;) I didn't even send them with ALL of their books.

The kids did great! They stayed more-or-less together, and checked for cars before crossing the street.

A Few Weeks In

For science, the kids had to observe a square yard of the backyard. :)

see the cricket?

Someone else wants to play outside, too.

School for this little one includes learning to leave a barrette in her hair so her hair stays clean(er) and out of her eyes.

We got out the microscope and looked at water kefir. Once focused, we could see the tiny "good bacteria!"

To kick-off our year-long study of world geography, we baked a world cake. The kids baked the cake (well, they made the batter and greased the pan), Mami made the "ocean" frosting, and Papi made the continents using rainbow Rice Krispies.

See, JL gets to join in on some school time fun.

We met up with some friends at a local nature center.

JL studying her books
This week we began our study of North American geography. Today involved lots of map work. :)
